Water supply cut off across most of the island

In a press release issued on Thursday afternoon, September 4, Saur stated that water supply remained cut off throughout the island, except in Colombier, Flamand and Corossol. Gustavia will be re-supplied by Corossol thanks to maneuvers on the network.

The work carried out during the night at the Tourmente traffic circle proved to be more complex than expected," he explains. The damaged pipe is embedded in 30 to 40 cm of concrete along its entire length, making clearance and repair operations considerably more difficult.

Thanks to the airport's exceptional agreement, the teams mobilized can now continue the work during the day, despite the proximity of the runways. "The repair work in progress is particularly delicate, as it requires the handling of large cast-iron elements", stresses Saur.

When the repair is complete, a concrete stop will have to be poured and left to dry before any water is put back in, the press release explains. If all goes according to plan, water could gradually return tomorrow," says Saur. However, the network will not be fully refilled immediately: it could take several days for the whole island to return to normal distribution."
