On Wednesday, October 28, the management of EDF Archipel Guadeloupe announced its schedule of potential load shedding that could occur later in the day. In a press release, EDF stated: “The provisional load shedding schedule allows us to identify, in advance, the areas that could be affected by load shedding if real-time electricity generation falls short of the island’s consumption. With the associated time frame, this schedule enables us to prepare for this possibility. In fact, load shedding due to a shortage of electricity generation is an exceptional measure; it is activated as a last resort to maintain the balance of the power system and prevent a widespread outage (blackout). This is why some of the announced time slots may ultimately result in no outages at all.”
The situation may change depending on several factors: weather conditions on the day in question, the level of activity on the island, or even everyone’s efforts to conserve energy.
Since Friday, October 23, backup generators have been installed directly on the grid in various areas of the island (Anse des Cayes, Saint-Jean, Public), and others are currently being transported to the island.
“Reducing your consumption directly helps limit the risk of load shedding,” emphasizes EDF, adding: “Every action counts. EDF thanks all residents and businesses for their cooperation and remains fully committed to securing the island’s power supply.”
