EDF Archipel Guadeloupe states in a press release that a water leak has been detected on the G8, one of the engines at the Public power plant. "This engine will have to be shut down on Monday morning to allow for technical intervention," it adds.
In the meantime, EDF explains that "the network may be weakened". As a result, it is strongly recommended that power consumption is kept to a minimum over the weekend.
To limit demand on the grid, EDF suggests "a few simple gestures":
- Switch off appliances on standby: unplug electronic equipment when not in use.
- Use household appliances outside peak hours: prioritize their use between 12pm and 2pm, and after 10pm.
- Moderate air-conditioning: aim for a temperature around 2°C below the outside temperature, close doors and windows, and turn off the air-conditioning when leaving the room.
- Limit lighting: use low-energy lamps and switch off lights as soon as possible.
In the event of a power cut, EDF recommends that you :
- Unplug sensitive appliances to avoid power surges when the power is restored.
- Keep refrigerators and freezers closed to preserve foodstuffs.
- Provide backup batteries for radios and essential equipment.
- Activate the energy-saving mode on telephones and limit their use.
EDF explains that its teams are mobilized to "restore a normal situation by Monday evening".
