A break in the water distribution network occurred early last week. It was quickly detected by technicians from Saur (the company responsible for distribution) at the Tourmente traffic circle, in the first few metres of the road leading to the egg. To intervene, the agents were forced to cut open the roadway. Only to find a few surprises.
They discovered a hole at the elbow of a water pipe. The work undertaken during the night (September 3 to 4, editor's note) at the Tourmente traffic circle turned out to be more complex than expected," explained a press release from Saur on September 4. The damaged pipe is embedded in 30 to 40 cm of concrete along its entire length, making clearance and repair operations considerably more difficult. "
Thanks to the airport's exceptional agreement, the teams mobilized were able to continue their repair work during the day, despite the proximity of the runways. "The repair work in progress is particularly delicate, as it requires the handling of large cast-iron elements", emphasized Saur.
For several hours, water supply was cut off across most of the island, except in Colombier, Flamand and Corossol. Gustavia was re-supplied by Corossol thanks to maneuvers on the network.
Once the repairs had been completed, a concrete stop was poured and left to dry before the network was put back into service, explained Saur. As usual in the event of a supply cut, the network was not refilled immediately: it took several days for the whole island to return to normal supply.
La coupure de la distribution d’eau intervenue en milieu de semaine dernière était liée à une casse sur le réseau. En l’occurrence, un trou dans un coude d’une conduite.
