The project may have seemed somewhat surprising. Nevertheless, from the moment it was launched at the end of November, with workshops organized as part of Island Creation Week, the multi-professional economic chamber has shown that the partnership signed with the Maison des Artistes is useful on the island. For a week, the director of artist-author support and training at the Maison des Artistes in Paris came to meet local creators. Not only in workshops, but also for one-to-one meetings. This was a first for Loïc Volat, who was able to gauge the "typology" of the artists who took part in the workshops offered by Cem. We have self-taught artists who have developed an activity around a hobby or vocation, whether it's painting, photography, design, graphics, etc.," he sums up. All the while having another professional activity. And then we have people trained in schools, settled on the island, who are developing their activities. "The issues of insularity, authors' rights, structuring and professionalizing an activity were all raised by workshop participants. We felt we needed someone to listen, reassure and inform," explains Philippe Lescos from Cem. The desire to meet other artists on the island was expressed. To get together in a calm, non-judgmental way. "
Developing a network is another concern of local creators. "That's the whole idea behind Cem Art," stresses Philippe Lescos, who notes that requests are already coming in from Guadeloupe. There are around thirty artists on the island, but some of them don't know it," remarks Loïc Volat. They don't know it or don't realize it. So there are many more. Graphic designers in particular. Here too, it's Cem Art's job to identify them. "
With Cem Art and the partnership with Maison des Artistes, the Chamber intends to create a place of trust, a point of reference. This includes all the administrative and legal aspects of artistic activity.
At the same time, creative workshops will be organized every year. Launching a project isn't that difficult," says Loïc Volat. The artistic dynamic exists in Saint-Barth. We mustn't forget that artists are a means of energizing a territory and its economy. "
A successful launch that should bring joy to former Cem president Thomas Gréaux, the man behind the project.
