From March 1, air fares are likely to rise significantly. During the budget vote on Thursday February 7, the tax on airline tickets (TSBA) was adopted with an increase. This Chirac tax, which used to cost 2.63 euros for an economy-class ticket to France or Europe, has now risen to 7.40 euros. Although it was initially planned that the French overseas territories and Corsica would be exempt from this tax, or at least benefit from a specific fare, this was not the case in the text finally adopted. Bercy did, however, announce that "budgetary support for Corsica and the French overseas territories for territorial continuity" would be provided. Corsica will see its allocation for territorial continuity increase by 50 million. For the French Overseas Departments and Territories, the credits allocated to LADOM will be increased by 14 million euros. In the eyes of Bercy, this increase will "fully compensate for this increase in tickets for the French overseas territories". However, not all people living in the French overseas territories have access to LADOM programs, due to the specific economic and social criteria they have to meet. They will therefore see their airfares rise, without compensation.
