"Entreprendre et réussir SBH", a single list for elections to the Chambre économique multiprofessionnelle (Cem)

After three months of intense communication, the Chambre économique multiprofessionnelle is entering the final phase of its elections. Today, Thursday March 13, the Cem is unveiling its list of candidates. While there has been a great deal of interaction with the island's professionals, as well as plans to set up a list, only one has finally been formally registered with the Chamber's services. It has been named "Entreprendre et réussir SBH". This Thursday, the electoral commission will meet at the Cem offices in Saint-Jean to examine the validity and admissibility of the list.

Electoral college of 5,400 companies
The "Entreprendre et réussir SBH" electoral college includes company directors, shopkeepers, craftsmen, company managers and representatives of the regulated liberal professions. We've come to the end of the process," says Cem director Thierry Gréaux. The way things have gone is quite satisfactory. We have organized four electoral commissions (this Thursday's is the fifth, editor's note), in compliance with the Cem bylaws. We've done our utmost to help candidates put together their lists. Now we need to mobilize the electorate. "The elections are scheduled for Saturday April 12. 5,400 companies on the island will be eligible to vote. Just over 2,000 others will not be able to vote, as they have not paid the CFAE (contribution forfaitaire annuelle des entreprises).
"The Cem represents all the island's companies," insists Thierry Gréaux. For the future elected representatives, the investment will not be insurmountable. In fact, as the Cem has explained over the past few months, an elected member of the Chamber is called upon for three to four hours a month. These hours are devoted to board meetings (of which not all elected members are members), general assemblies and commissions. These do not necessarily take place every month, but several can be held in the space of a week. The elected representative must feel invested with a mandate, and must be able to put forward proposals and ideas for solutions to the problems of the sector he or she represents," writes Cem. Lastly, they must read certain reports submitted by the Cem's salaried team, and take the temperature of the problems encountered among their peers. There is no notion of on-call duty, but mental involvement at meetings and the ability to give one's opinion on subjects affecting entrepreneurship are important. "
