In the absence of a choice, since only one list is in the running for these 2025 consular elections, it's time for Saint-Barthélemy's entrepreneurs to cast their votes. At least for those registered on the electoral list of the Chambre économique multiprofessionnelle. This Saturday, April 12, they are expected at the Cem headquarters, 57 chemin des Sables in Saint-Jean, between 8 and 5pm, to slip their ballot into the ballot box.
Although the outcome of the election is a foregone conclusion, due to the single candidacy of the "Entreprendre et réussir SBH" list, the Chamber's future newly-elected members are essentially hoping that this ballot will give them legitimacy. Indeed, the greater the number of votes cast, the more weight the fourteen incumbents and five substitutes will carry in the discussions and actions they will undertake during their term of office.
"All the colleges are represented and we've got a good dynamic," enthuses Benvinda Pereira Fonseca, the only member of the candidate team to have already been elected to the Cem. Even though she has only been elected in the middle of her term of office, her experience will be of great benefit to her running mates. Together with Gilberto Rodrigues de Oliveira, she is standing for election as a member of the "trades and crafts" college (deputies: Mehdy Maxor and Mathieu Boucher). Pierre-Antoine Guibout and David Malespine are the full members of the "commerce and agriculture" college (Marianne Laplace and Edouard Lacour are alternates). Bertrand Magras, Jean-François Tricot and David Dorvilma are standing candidates for the "commercial services" college (alternates: Julien Oscar Gouineau and Jean-Mathieu Sablier), Jérémy Laplace for the "industry" college (alternate: Antonio Pereira Moreira), Emmanuelle Desailloud for the "regulated liberal professions" (alternate: Vivien Tovo) and Jean-Pierre Crochepierre for the "assimilated liberal professions" (alternate: Vera Carvalho Coelho).
The more people who vote, the more weight we'll have," insists Pierre-Antoine Guibout. We need a strong mobilization if this list and its elected representatives are to have the legitimacy to carry the voice of the different businesses and colleges. A lot of work has been done by the previous team, but the Cem is reaching an age of maturity, and it needs to be able to rely on a strong team.A lot of work was done by the previous team, but the Cem is reaching an age of maturity and needs to be able to rely on a strong legitimacy to show that the island's economic fabric has awakened. "On Saturday, the polling station will be presided over by the representative appointed by the territorial council, Melissa Lake. She will be assisted by a representative of the "Entreprendre et Réussir SBH" list and at least one member of the Chamber's electoral commission.
Counting will take place at 5pm at the Cem headquarters. As with "traditional" elections, this stage will be open to the public.
