Hurricane Melissa - In Saint Barth and the Antilles, humanitarian aid is getting underway

A week ago, Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded, swept across Jamaica. The death toll is 32, but this number is still provisional. Parts of the island have been devastated.

The Red Cross
In the West Indies, humanitarian aid was organized. The Red Cross delegation in Saint-Barthélemy announced in a press release on November 3 that "all proceeds from La Boutique solidaire on Saturday November 8, Wednesday November 12 and Saturday November 15, 2025 will be donated to support the affected populations. "The funds raised will enable the French Red Cross's Plateforme d'Intervention Régionale Amériques Caraïbes (PIRAC) to intervene through two operations: the financing of "family kits" - consisting of hygiene products, shelters and cleaning tools - and the deployment of water treatment units.
The Saint-Barth delegation invites residents to get involved by taking part in sales. The Boutique Solidaire is located at 34, rue de la Paix in Gustavia. Opening hours: Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm and Wednesdays from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

Rotary Club, Lions Club and the community
The Rotary Club, the Lions Club and the Collectivité met on October 31. "We are still awaiting further local information before sending material so that the aid is adapted and really useful," notes Rotary in a November 1 press release.
The organization adds that financial donations can however be made now, by writing to the following e-mail address: rotaryclubsbh@gmail.com.
A bank details form will then be sent to you. 100% of donations will be earmarked for humanitarian projects. Rotary is also planning to send Shelter boxes, emergency kits containing a family tent, blankets, a lighting system, tools, water purification equipment, etc.
