International Women's Day for the UN (United Nations) since 1977, International Day for the Fight for Women's Rights for France, March 8 is a date that, regardless of its formulation, has both historical and symbolic significance. It serves as a reminder of the struggles of the past, but also of the countless struggles of the present, to ensure that women have the same rights as men. To mark the occasion, on Sunday, March 8, the president of the Association of Young Workers and Students (Ajoe) of Saint Barthélemy, Cécile Coudreau, has decided to organize a dance event that will, of course, be aimed at the women of the island.
Well-being, serenity, strength
This day dedicated to women and dance will be held in the Lorient hall, under the auspices of the Ajoe dance section and the Coconut Girls. The idea is to offer a series of classes on several styles of dance as well as wellness disciplines. These events are open to participants aged 12 and over. The level of the participants is not important. "Sometimes we get the feeling that women stop dancing after a certain age," says Cécile Coudreau. "But moving your body is beneficial at any age. Dance is accompanied by a state of mind that lasts a lifetime. I have lots of different women in my classes, who have different lives and backgrounds. What they have in common is that they all leave the sessions with a smile on their faces. Because dance brings well-being and serenity. Whatever life throws at me, dance has given me a lot of strength. And I want to pass on that strength. That's also why Sunday, March 8, is dedicated to all the women on the island.
While dance, in all its forms, is an artistic and athletic discipline, it also has a social aspect, a notion of sharing and pushing oneself beyond one's limits. And then there is the mirror... "I realized that since I was seven years old, I have been seeing myself," smiles Cécile Coudreau. "With a different feeling. There is the physical me and the me in the mirror. The one that helps you correct yourself but also teaches you to accept yourself, to look."
To host this "Women's Day Dance," the president of Ajoe called on several "accomplices." Kim, of course, Julie Lédée, Carole Pernelle, Marylou, Anaïs Cannamela, and Bee Bee. From 8:30 a.m. to around 5 p.m., seven sessions will be offered in a wide variety of genres. From Animal Flow to Munz floor, Caribbean fusion, jazz funk, gyro, heel dancing, and Zumba, the women of the island will have a wide choice of rhythms and atmospheres to enjoy together. To smile, share, exercise, push themselves, learn, relax... Among women of all ages, with the sole aim of treating themselves to moments of well-being.
