All on Stage: An Invitation to Travel

With rhythmic little steps and suitcases rolling across the floor, the Ajoe dance section invites the island’s residents on a journey for the third edition of its show titled “Tous en scène.” On Saturday, June 13, the stage set up at the Ajoe venue in Lorient will be taken over by students from the various classes taught throughout the year by the association’s instructors. The theme is travel and escape.
The event will begin with a free children’s performance at 4 p.m. From the youngest, aged four, to the teenagers, everyone will take the stage for short performances during which they will showcase everything they have learned since the start of the season. “We have about a hundred students at the dance school,” notes Ajoe president Cécile Coudreau. “We have a lot of teens, especially thanks to Jérôme’s (Liévin, ed.) hip-hop classes. It’s great because it wasn’t a given at first. Even though I knew hip-hop might appeal to teens.”

Burlesque and high heels
When night falls, the adults will take over. “We’re going to travel through several countries,” announces Cécile Coudreau, smiling and eager. For nearly 90 minutes, several groups will take the stage one after another. First up is the Cocos-Mangos troupe, which brings together students from two classes. “About twenty women,” specifies Cécile, who is delighted to have been able to bring the two groups together, especially after losing dancers due to people leaving the island and new births. And without giving away the show’s content, the president adds: “I love burlesque, cabaret, and dancing with a comedic touch that appeals to everyone. We had a good laugh while getting ready. Some of the women are going to surprise their friends and family—and more than a few people!” A graceful escape through laughter—a wonderful program. And it doesn’t stop there.
Because for this third edition of Tous en scène, the Ti Ouana Salsa troupe will also be joining in. Not to mention Tiffany with belly dancing and Anaïs Cannamela’s students, who will be performing in high heels. And then there’s the set, carefully constructed by Ajoe volunteers. “The stage is set up by the Collectivité staff, but for everything else, everyone pitches in,” insists Cécile Coudreau. “It adds a little something extra to the show.” See you on Saturday, June 13, at the Ajoe grounds.
