The big annual event celebrating the sister city relationship between the Swedish town of Piteå and the island of Saint Barthélemy is fast approaching. In fact, Piteå Day, organized each year by ASBAS (the Saint-Barth Association of Friends of Sweden), will take place on November 7 and 8. These two days will be filled with numerous events, including two that are particularly anticipated: the Gustavialoppet and the Wahoo Piteå Day. Registration is now open for both events—or at least for the trolling fishing contest.
Limited spots available for the Gustavialoppet!
Runners wishing to participate in the 10-kilometer or 5-kilometer races at the Gustavialoppet on Sunday, November 8, need to hurry to register. As Nils Dufau, president of Asbas, explains, the number of spots is limited. “We’ve capped the 10-kilometer race at 250 runners and the 5-kilometer race at 150 participants,” he says. However, for the 10K, Asbas has already received 200 registrations! It’s therefore urgent to log on to the registration website to ensure you get a race bib. And for those planning to run the 5K, time is also running out. So far, more than thirty registrations have been confirmed on the Sport Timing website.
For walkers, don’t panic! Registration will take place on Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m. during the traditional Asbas “pasta party” on the plaza in front of the Wall House in La Pointe. Race numbers and T-shirts will be handed out to all registered participants (free for children). For the fishing contests, the urgency is less. Nevertheless, don’t wait too long. It’s worth noting that, as of today, 22 runners from Saint Martin have already confirmed their participation.
Trolling registration open until November 4
For the fishing tournaments, specifically the Wahoo Piteå Day (which will take place on Sunday, November 8), the Saint-Barth Sport Fishing Association is in charge. Chloé Brin is the president, supported by Vincent Charbonnel (vice president), Samantha Brin (treasurer), and Zoé Ciraud (secretary). Registration for the trolling tournament is now open. Anglers wishing to participate should go to Saint-Barth Marine in Gustavia or Ouanalao Fisherman in Lorient to register. “Registration is open until November 4,” says Chloé Brin. Boats from Saba, Saint Kitts, and Saint Eustatius are expected to participate in the competitions.
For the bottom fishing competition, enthusiasts don’t need to rush. Chloé Brin notes that registration will take place on the Wall House plaza during the “Captain’s briefing” on Saturday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m.
A Large Swedish Delegation
For the 2026 edition of Piteå Day, a Swedish delegation of about fifteen people will be in Saint Barth. In 2025, visitors came from Piteå. This year, they will be arriving from Stockholm. Leading the delegation is Roger Richter, president and founder of the association “L’assemblée de Saint-Barth.” This same association hosted Asbas and the Chorale des Bons Chœurs in Sweden last July (JSB 1672). But Nils Dufau assures us that, as every year, the celebrations will take place “without pretension.”
