The "Soap Bubble Paintings", vibrant and experimental works by Jirí Georg Dokoupil, a renowned international artist known for his unconventional techniques and boundless creativity, are on show at Space Gallery in Gustavia. As part of his winter exhibition, Space Gallery offers an opportunity to experience the magic of the artist's evocative fusion of spontaneity and artistry.
The "Soap Bubble Paintings" are created by popping coloured soap bubbles on canvas, reflecting the playful and experimental spirit of the artist.s playful, experimental spirit, capturing fleeting moments of beauty in dynamic, colorful forms. The artist also mixes other materials with his paint to create luminous illusions. In these works, he finds his light in constant movement and irrepeatable action.
Born in Czechoslovakia in 1954, Jirí Georg Dokoupil's career spans several decades and continents, marked by a refusal to conform to a single artistic style. A founding member of the "Junge Wilde" and "Mülheimer Freiheit" art collectives in the 1980s, he quickly became known for his radical approach to neo-expressionism and his innovative use of materials.
His larger body of work comprises over 60 series and 100 unique artistic techniques. His creations have been shown in solo exhibitions around the world, including at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg and the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York. His works are also included in prestigious public collections, such as those of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in Cologne.
