Music - Didier Prossaird Jazz Trio in concert

It seems a long time ago that Didier Prossaird arrived in Saint-Barthélemy to work at the Maison de la Mer. In fact, it was 35 years ago, in 1991. Since then, the man who used to work in the island's schools, introducing children to music, has come a long way. However, the pianist never misses an opportunity to return to Saint-Barthélemy. He will be performing three times this weekend. Firstly, in a Jazz trio with Julien Séguret (percussion) and Wilky Souklaye (bass): the first concert took place yesterday, Thursday, at the Arawak, and the second is scheduled for this Friday at 8pm in the Anglican Church, Gustavia. Tomorrow, Saturday, Didier Prossaird will play with Tanya Michelle on the quayside for the Bucket.
Originally from Royan, Didier Prossaird was 21 when he followed a friend to Saint-Barthélemy. Very quickly, I wanted to make music," he recalls. I took early music lessons in kindergarten, but I played everywhere! Then, in 1995, some American friends invited me to go to the United States. "He settled in Baltimore for three years before heading for the capital, Washington. In 25 years, he released five albums there with his salsa group Sin miedo (without fear). I used to come back to Saint-Barth at certain times," he recalls. I even had a music school: l'Atelier des Muziciens. "Last year, the back-and-forth between the United States and Saint-Barth came to an end. The pianist moved closer to his family and settled back in Royan. He continued to make a living from his passion, music. A passion that could only bring him back to Saint-Barth.
