From this Thursday, January 9 (opening at 6.30pm) to March 31, Hôtel Le Barthélemy is hosting a new photographic exhibition. It is the work of young local artist Mehdy Maxor, whose previous works have been displayed in the lobby of Saint-Barthélemy airport. His photographs are the fruit of a process of reflection that began seven years ago. "I set myself the challenge of presenting my identity but also that of the island through photographs," explains the 27-year-old artist. After "Origins" in 2021, Mehdy Maxor offers the second part of a series of photographs grouped under the following title "High season".For "Origins", he set out to discover the traditional outfits of Saint-Barth, before combining them with a more modern vision of the island in the first part of "High season". "It's become the guiding principle of my project," he assures us. Mehdy Maxor then introduced into his photographs a reflection on the preservation of the environment in Saint-Barth, while attempting to underline the obvious contradictions that the island, its inhabitants and visitors maintain regarding this environmental awareness, tradition and a consumerist lifestyle that doesn't fit in well with it. With this exhibition, I'm looking to the future," explains the photographer. I'm having fun with colors, places and scenes. "As with each of his exhibitions, Mehdy Maxor presents nine photographs. Why nine? It's hard to say," he smiles. Maybe because it's my lucky number. "It should be noted that the second part of "High season" is Mehdy Maxor's first photographic exhibition as a totally independent photographer.
