Audience members gathered at the Ajoe theater this Friday evening (7:50 p.m.) in Lorient to watch the screening of the film *Pour le plaisir* will not see Lili Piter on the big screen. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old took part in the filming of the feature film directed by Reem Kherici, starring Alexandra Lamy and François Cluzet. On the crew, Lili served as third assistant. This was her seventh experience in the film industry, which first opened its doors to her in 2022.

A Post-Covid Debut
Born in Paris, Lili spent her entire childhood in Saint-Barthélemy surrounded by her family. Like all the island’s children, she had to leave to continue her high school education. She moved to Canada and continued her studies there. During the Covid crisis, she managed to return to Saint-Barth. But only for a short time. “My mom (who was an assistant director) told me I could stay for a month, no more,” Lili smiles. “She suggested a few things, including an internship in film production in Paris.” The student opted for that opportunity. It was an experience that appealed to her.
“Naturally, when I returned to Canada for my studies, I wasn’t really in the mood for it anymore,” she says. But then she received an offer to work on the set of the feature film “Chien et chat,” the first directed by Reem Kherici. “I was very lucky, because it’s a very closed-off world,” Lili says. “My mom’s contacts helped me a lot.”
The link between the dressing rooms and the set
She then joined several film crews, eventually working on “Pour le plaisir.” She explains: “I’m the third assistant director. I take care of the actors, from welcoming them in the dressing rooms all the way to the set. I’m the link between the two. I have to make sure all the preparations go smoothly. Working in the dressing rooms is my favorite part. Because that’s where we get ready, where we pamper the actors.”
“Pour le plaisir” was filmed last summer in Paris and the surrounding region. “The film’s subject matter is a bit taboo but handled with a lot of lightness,” explains Lili. “I spent three months working alongside Alexandra Lamy and François Cluzet, and they’re very down-to-earth people. It was one of my most enjoyable shoots. And then there’s Reem—she’s a very determined, endearing woman who knows what she wants.”
Since then, the uncertainty and irregularity of the job, the dreariness of Paris, and homesickness have convinced Lili to return home to Saint-Barth. “I’d love to film in the Caribbean, but that doesn’t happen often,” she laments. Returning “full of ambition,” she started her own small business and envisions staying in Saint-Barth. But she’s running into a common problem: housing.
This Friday evening, Lili Piter will mingle with the audience at the Ajoe. “I can’t wait to see the reactions,” she says.
