Every year, the Agence territoriale de l'environnement (Territorial Environment Agency) organizes the "Day of the Night" event in the gardens of the Gustavia lighthouse. But sometimes it's a good idea to change your habits. So, on Saturday October 11, the Agency decided to invite the island's population to the Grand Fond parking lot, on the left next to the beach entrance. Unfortunately, weather conditions linked to the passage of storm Jerry near the island forced ATE to cancel the event. However, the event will be rescheduled for a later date, when the weather is more clement.
For the record, Night Day is an event to raise awareness of light pollution, protect nocturnal biodiversity and marvel at the magic of the starry sky. The event has been held throughout France and in Quebec since 2023.
For this year's event, the ATE offered a night-time tour of Grand Fond beach, followed by a telescopic observation of the starry sky with Jordan Blanchard (Astro photographies Saint-Barth).
