The Saint-B’Art Association Announces Its Winners

On the harbor master’s office pier in Gustavia, passersby crowd around stalls filled with a wide variety of books. Further along, children are engrossed in comic books in the youth area, and local authors are showcasing their work. On this Sunday, May 3, the Saint-B’Art association is hosting its traditional book fair. It’s a highly anticipated event, not only for literature lovers but also for those who entered the art-postal and short story contests. That’s because the association announces the winners’ names at this event.
For the mail art contest, first prize went to Fleur Arron in the under-18 category and to Pauline Buffat in the over-18 category. Meanwhile, first prize in the short story contest was awarded to José Larrea, author of “Ile Ilmani” (JSB1661). Leïla Nazzal, chair of the Jeunes Plumes jury and the adult short story contest, as well as a judge for the Mail Art contest, states: “Nine short stories were submitted, along with about ten envelopes for the mail art category, all centered on the theme ‘An Island, Here or Elsewhere.’ This subject clearly inspired the participants, whether they are attached to Saint Barthélemy or to another island. This poetic and evocative theme gave rise to beautiful creations, even though we regret the lower number of entries compared to that of the Jeunes Plumes (97 participants this year, a record, ed.). Nevertheless, we encourage everyone to continue sharing their unique perspective on the themes we propose.”
