Brought to the attention of the general public by his committed YouTube videos and TV columns, Kevin Razy has been forging a singular path between humor and reflection for several years now. With his latest show, he moves away from pure stand-up to explore more hybrid forms, where personal narrative and collective memory intersect.
Kevin Razy will present his show on Monday June 2 and Tuesday June 3 at the Théatre du Paradis. A discovery for the comedian, who has never visited the island before: "It's incredible, really! It's the first time I've set foot on this island paradise, and I'm honored to be able to do so in the context of art! Playing there adds an extra layer of excitement. Especially with the theme of my show, I love the idea of being able to spread its story as far and wide as possible. "
Fallait être là" is not just another show. It is, in his words, "one of the most intimate" he has ever written. It's a mise en abyme in which I tell the story of the creation of a musical based on a little-known man in our history, a certain Gaston Monnerville," explains Kevin Razy. It's a cross between my life and his, in which I tell the story of how I met this former president of the French Senate, and how our paths became intertwined. "
The choice of title is intriguing, and no accident. There are several ideas behind the title," explains the actor. Firstly, I knew that there would be no excerpt or recording, hence 'Fallait être là', if anyone wanted to see the show. It's also a tribute to all those close to me and the people who have supported me from the start, who have been there. "On stage, the show alternates humor and emotion, in a register that is sometimes unexpected for the audience. "Honestly, if I'm to believe the feedback I've had from people who've seen the show, you laugh quite a lot, but you come away with tears in your eyes. Sometimes your throat is tight, sometimes you're confused. I think this show is so authentic about me that it takes the audience into very strong emotions. Which is in stark contrast to my very stand-up career. "
A theater fan, Kevin Razy also draws on his recent acting experience: "I go to see three or four plays a week when I'm not acting. I was lucky enough to be part of the creative team for Alexis Michalik's latest play, "Passeport". I wanted to mix all my experiences. That of a comedian, a fan of musical comedy, who finds himself nominated for a Molière for his role in a play by Michalik. "
As for humor today, can it still say everything? Kevin Razy thinks: "You can laugh at anything, but on sensitive subjects, you have to be able to be excellent. "
