Saint-Barth - Gums Krys

Gums, Krys and Mike Xo set the Select alight

The Sélect was packed to the rafters on Saturday February 15. As is the case almost every weekend, revelers gathered for a drink or a dance. But this Saturday, the legendary Saint-Barth bar pulled out all the stops to welcome an exceptional guest. The singer with millions of Krys streams performed on an improvised stage. After getting the crowd jumping with his summer hit "God Bless", the Guadeloupe native invited two local artists to join him: Gums and Mike XO. Exclusively, the trio performed their new single "Rhum épi fanm" ahead of its official release this Friday, February 21. "I want this sound to be a hit because it's heavy, and it's from here, it's from home family," said Krys.

A new genre
Gums has been preparing the release of this track for months. On his return to Saint-Barth, the tennis player and singer turned to producers to breathe new life into his career. Krys was one of them. "I'd met him a long time ago, because I was friends with his cousin Colonel Reyel," says Gums. He invited him to Saint-Barth, and the two artists went straight to Mike XO's studio. Gums played the producer several tracks he had in stock, including the chorus of the forthcoming "Rhum épi fanm". "I really wanted to do soca because I'd never done it before," adds the singer. Krys validated the project, and in just a few hours the sound was finished.

"We felt a positive energy"
The track was presented to the public for the first time on August 2 during their concert on the Collectivité quay for the Saveurs Caraibes festival. We saw that people reacted well to the track," smiles Gums. We also felt a positive energy when we sang it. We said to ourselves: let's get it out there. "But we didn't count on the viral success of Krys' "God Bless". The video clip for the track has reached three million views on YouTube, and the singer has been playing a series of concerts in France and the Indian Ocean. He will be performing at La Cigale on April 27.

A clip made in St-Barth
But the singer from Guadeloupe is not putting his production projects on hold. On Saturday February 15, he landed once again in Saint-Barth, to shoot the video for the track "Rhum épi fanm". From the airport to Gouverneur beach, the team captures the island from every angle. Local talent was also put to good use: the costumes were handmade by the designer of the Kaymi brand, while The Youngz association provided the musical ambience. "It's memorable for Saint-Barth," says Gums. After a warm welcome at the Sélect, the song is now in the hands of the public.
