Belgian humorist Véronique Gallo takes to the stage at the Théâtre du Paradis this Thursday June 5, Friday June 6 and Saturday June 7 at 8pm, as part of the 24th edition of the Festival du Théâtre de Saint Barthélémy organized by SB Artists. With her show "Femme de vie", she delivers a funny, intimate and biting one-woman show about the challenges of mid-life for women. Interview.
JSB: You compose, perform and produce your own shows. Where does this desire to do everything come from?
Véronique Gallo : Yes, I write and perform my shows, and I also produce them. On the other hand, I have a director who works with me and allows me to take a step back! But it's true that, since I'm a storyteller, I see the show, the novel, the film in my head before I write it.
JSB: Is this your first visit to Saint-Barth? How do you feel about this festival at the end of the world?
Véronique Gallo This festival is exceptional! Not only does it allow me to visit this magnificent island, but above all, it's organized by a wonderful team who takes great care of each artist!
JSB: If you had to sum up "Femme de vie" in one sentence for a Saint-Barth spectator, what would it be?
Véronique Gallo Femme de vie is a show that speaks to our innermost selves.
JSB: How do you balance laughter and emotion when you're talking so much about yourself on stage?
Véronique Gallo : The balance lies in the fact that I work on emotions, and these emotions are universal. So after that, I can say whatever I want, but the audience will always feel it's true.
JSB: You often talk about the complexity of being a woman today. Would you say there's an urgent need to laugh about it?
Véronique Gallo : I think it's urgent, in any case, to continue our fight for equality. And laughter can really help us, because we're all the fruit of societal injections that have pushed us to be who we are, and we can get rid of them!
JSB: Femme de vie is a powerful title: what did you want to say with this show?
Véronique Gallo: That what counts is trusting in life. Whatever we go through, even if it's terribly painful at the time, it all makes sense in the end. "
