It has become a premier event for artists in Saint Barthélemy. Since its inception in 2022, the Salon des artistes has brought together dozens of painters, sculptors, photographers, and illustrators each year at the Wall House Territorial Museum. Building on its previous successes, the event returns this year. It will open its doors this Saturday, September 5, with an opening reception open to everyone at 6:30 p.m., and will run through October 17. As in previous years, the winners will be chosen by the public.
Inspired by the Salon des Artistes Français, founded in Paris in 1880, the event’s concept is designed to be both simple and popular—in the noble sense of the term. Charles Moreau, director of the Wall House Museum, sums up the spirit of the Salon: “The goal is to give all artists on the island—whether professional or amateur—an opportunity to present their work to the public. There is no set theme, which allows them to choose their own pieces. The Salon can help them gain recognition and, potentially, find clients.”
Furthermore, visitors will vote to select the winning works at the end of the exhibition. Using a ballot, each person walking through the museum’s galleries will be able to express their preference for a sculpture, a photograph, and a piece of art (painting, graphic art, etc.). “This year, the works continue to be very diverse, and we have new exhibitors, both local and international,” notes Charles Moreau. The 2026 edition will feature forty exhibiting artists.
