Saint-Barth - Bourse aux livres

Book fair and market this Sunday in Gustavia

The month of May gets off to a convivial and cultural start. This Sunday, May 4, two events will be held simultaneously in Gustavia. The Marché de Saint-Barthélemy, as on every first Sunday of the month, but also and above all the now traditional book exchange organized by the Saint-B'Art association. Both start at 8 a.m. and finish around midday.
For book lovers, the rendez-vous is on the Quai du Général de Gaulle, opposite the harbour master's office in Gustavia. After last year's exile on the Quai du Wall House, the Bourse aux Livres is back on its original site. A location that will enable visitors and other strollers to examine the stalls of books before wandering between the stands set up by artisans and traders on the market, without having to walk hundreds of meters.
As every year, hundreds of books will be made available to the public by the Saint-B'Art association. These books have been collected from local residents who have decided to offload some of their reading material, or to share it with other enthusiasts of novels, essays, art, travel, politics, cookery, manuals of all kinds, and so on. Not forgetting books for children, as a reading room will be set up for the very young.
In addition, a number of local authors will be on hand to present some of their works and discuss them with visitors. But the Bourse aux livres is also a solemn occasion for the Saint-B'Art association.
The prizes for the postal art competition (at 10:45 a.m.) and the short story competition (11 a.m.) will be awarded on Sunday. The Journal de Saint-Barth has been publishing these entries in their entirety for several weeks.
Once they've had their fill of books, as each visitor can take away as many as they like, strollers will be able to visit the Saint-Barthélemy market. Unlike the April market, the Tourism Committee is not involved in the organization. As a result, the entertainment will be as usual. With craftsmen, shopkeepers, and rhythms provided by the One Love Band. An opportunity to meet up with friends, by chance and not necessarily clean-shaven, for a chat over a coffee or juice.
