25th Theater Festival - Chilling and powerful, "The Disappearance of Josef Mengele" closes the festival

It all began with five brides-to-be meticulously studying the social conventions of the 1950s. Then came the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, searching for the meaning of the sign of four. With “The Disappearance of Josef Mengele” to conclude the 25th edition of its Theater Festival, the SB Artists association invites you, this Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, to immerse yourself in a chilling tale. The story of the escape of Nazi Germany’s most notorious doctor, SS officer Josef Mengele. A journey into the heart of darkness directed by Benoît Giros and performed by Mikaël Chirinian.
This one-man show, inspired by Olivier Guez’s book published by Grasset and winner of the 2017 Prix Renaudot, takes the audience on the trail of Josef Mengele through his wanderings in South America after fleeing to Argentina under a false identity.

“Urgent to Understand”
With this play, Benoît Giros and Mikaël Chirinian tell the story of how “an ordinary man, an ambitious young doctor, was driven by a poisonous and deadly ideology to commit abject crimes.” And to justify them. “Driven both by artistic encounters with figures of violence, evil, and resilience, it now seemed possible to us to engage with this work by Olivier Guez, which recounts the inner journey of Josef Mengele, the ‘Angel of Death’ as his Auschwitz victims nicknamed him,” the two artists explain on the Théâtre online website. “Today, even more so than tomorrow, it is urgent to understand why and how this man managed to slip through the cracks for 40 years, to evade human justice,” they continue. “It is urgent to understand that every detail matters in this story. We must tell the whole story, hear everything, so that we may perhaps come to realize that this must never happen again.”
A unique and intense theatrical experience, to be enjoyed in Saint-Barthélemy thanks to the SB Artists Festival.
