Wisely seated on the floor of a classroom, the CM2 pupils of the Gustavia school group listened attentively to their visitor for the day, none other than the President of the Collectivité territoriale. As he has done every year since his election, Xavier Lédée came on Monday October 7 to meet the pupils in the sections who are preparing to elect their representatives to the Territorial Youth Council (CTJ). "I explained to them what the CTJ is and what the role of an advisor is," says the president. In doing so, he drew in particular on feedback from previous elected representatives. "Apparently, there are a lot of potential candidates among the CM2s," he boasts. The elections are due to be held before the All Saints' vacation.
But Xavier Lédée's visit was also an opportunity for the students and their teachers to talk about the ceremony commemorating the abolition of slavery. This solemn occasion took place yesterday, Wednesday October 9, the date of abolition by the Kingdom of Sweden in 1847.
