Housing in the former fire station

Among the pile of announced projects that remain stalled, the one involving the renovation of the former fire station in Saint-Jean has been at the forefront for many months. In late November 2024, teams from the Territorial Fire and Rescue Service (STIS) moved into the new fire station. Since then, the question has arisen regarding the use of the former Saint-Jean site. Initially, the territorial service’s mechanical division was set up there. It occupies the ground floor of the building. Upstairs, there was discussion of relocating the territorial police, currently based in Gustavia. But there was also talk of modifying the layout to build housing. A second option that was ultimately adopted by the elected members of the Executive Council. Indeed, during the May 6 session, six of the seven council members on the “EC” granted a building permit for seven housing units and an office. The resolution provides no further details regarding the nature of the project or the housing units that may be built.
