Saint-Barth - Basket avril 23

Basketball - Discovering the Comité des Iles du Nord

For enthusiasts and young lovers of Saint-Barthélemy (and Saint-Martin) basketball, the open day organized this Saturday, November 23 by the Comité territorial de basket-ball des Iles du Nord is an event not to be missed. Admittedly, it takes place in Saint-Martin, more precisely at the sports hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will require residents of Saint-Barth to make the trip. But to discover the local talent, educators and facilities on both islands, to play friendly matches and, above all, to take out a license, the journey will undoubtedly be worthwhile.
Committee vice-president Pascal Peuchot explains the importance of the event. This day is there to support the development of clubs and help them register licenses," he assures us. The more members a club has, the more weight it carries with the French Federation. The online procedures for obtaining a license sometimes require support, so this day also serves that purpose. "
Last season, the Comité territorial lost one of its clubs on Saint-Martin. Thunderz, in fact. There are now three on Saint-Martin and one on Saint-Barth: the Pelicans. In Saint-Barth, there's no question of attracting and recruiting. Particularly for the very young. In the 4-6 age group, for example, the club already has 24 members, out of a total of 90 including all age groups. "We're doing extremely well," says Pascal Peuchot with satisfaction.
In addition, Saint-Barthélemy now has three representatives on the Comité des Iles du Nord basketball development center, based in Saint-Martin. They are Sayan Cagan Arnaud, 13, Matis Nicolas, 14, and Antonin Peuchot, also 14. Antonin and Sayan have joined a host family to follow their training at the center. But all continue to play for the Pelicans.
Until the end of the year, youngsters from the various clubs will be meeting for "plateaux" to compete against each other. The various championships begin in January.
The Committee's open day this Saturday in Saint-Martin is open to all.
